The Chamber of CommerceOrganized in 1932 as a private not-for-profit corporation, the Chamber of Commerce is South Havens oldest business organization. As a private organization, the Chamber has many partnerships and works closely with a number of community entities, but at its core it remains an organization of business. Two of the most common perceptions are that the Chamber of Commerce is a government institution or it is a service club. It is neither. Today, the organization is made up of 350 area business members committed to South Haven and doing business here. The mission of the organization is "to support economic growth and prosperity in the greater South Haven area." The organization pursues its mission through the commitment of its members, volunteer committees and dedicated staff. The many programs that are designed to support the organization’s mission can be found here. Located at 606 Phillips St., the Chamber office is easily identified and readily accessible to visitors, residents, and new residents and businesses. Within the office is a variety of information, such as maps and demographics on South Haven and its businesses. But the organization is more than information and programs. Within the website you will find a categorized directory of the businesses in the area who recognize that working together is a first step in community stewardship. With the focus by so many businesses today on the expenses that directly impact the bottom line and the elimination or reduction of expenses that have no visible or direct impact on the bottom line, it is important that as citizens, we reward with our purchases those businesses that believe in our community. Membership in the Chamber of Commerce is not the whole of community stewardship, but it is a good beginning. Your support of the businesses contained in this website is greatly appreciated and encouraged. Consider it an investment in your community! |
