The summer portion of the seventh season of the South Haven Performance Series has been announced.
Founded in 2010, the Performance Series is an all-volunteer community-based organization dedicated to providing a rich mixture of the musical arts for South Haven area residents and visitors. Most concerts are held during the summer months with an additional free concert presented in the fall.
The Series will begin Friday, May 13, with a piano concert by 2016 Gilmore Young Artist Micah McLaurin. This marks the third time in the history of the Performance Series that a concert has been presented in South Haven in collaboration with the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. A 21-year-old native of Charleston, South Carolina, McLaurin was the youngest of eight pianists chosen worldwide to participate in the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland. He was also one of eight pianists selected to participate in the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California where he won the concerto competition. The performance is sponsored in memory of Dawne Cathleen Kennedy, a native of Bangor.
