DESCRIPTION:Outdoor and Family Fun in the Barn and Woods! Outside\, join Anne Long\, Avery Daughtery and Gayle Champagne for fun nature activities for all ages. Plant a native tree to take home and watch grow. Make seed bombs with native plant seeds. Participate in a scavenger hunt in the backwoods.\n\nTopics and Speakers- Inside 11 A.M. - 12 (Noon) Backyard Birds Mike Champagne\n\nSpring is here and birds are returning from their winter homes. Some are only passing through on their way north\, while others will be spending the summer and nesting near our homes. Many can be seen and heard in our backyards. Come out and pick up helpful tips on how to identify these birds\, and learn more about their natural history and conservation.\n\n12:30- 1:30 P.M. Beneath the Surface: Invasive Species in Michigan's Waters Nor Serocki "Pure Michigan" is known for its lakes\, rivers\, and waterways\, but all of these are being changed by invasive plants and animals. In order to protect the places we\, and over 100 million visitors\, love to play\, we have to learn how to protect the waters around us. Join Nor Serocki\, local invasive species coordinator\, to learn how our waters work\, what threatens them\, and what we can do to help preserve Pure Michigan.\n\n2:30- 3:30 P.M.\n\nPrairie Planting Basics Mike Champagne\n\nAre you interested in planting a prairie or a prairie border on your property? This program will provide you with the basic steps for creating a piece of this beautiful natural community on your land\, including site preparation\, plant selection\, planting\, and site management. Once completed\, your planting will feature a variety of native grasses and wildflowers each growing season\, and attract a variety of birds\, butterflies\, and other organisms.\n\nLight Snacks will be provided. Come and join in the celebration of our planet!
