The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome new member Kalcer Group with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, February 22nd.
Kalcer Group is a property development company, specializing in the revitalization of abandoned and distressed properties. After many years in the Kalamazoo area, Kalcer Group partner Larry Hollenbeck turned his sights to South Haven in the early 2010s with the acquisition of the Central Lofts project.
With a strong background in residential, commercial and industrial real estate development, Hollenbeck is no stranger to large projects, but each renovation carries its own challenges, and Central Lofts was no exception. According to Hollenbeck, the City had decided to demolish the old High School, which was built in 1913. Other developers had started renovations to convert the school building into condos, but abandoned the project before completion. Kalcer Group purchased the property in 2013, and expects to complete the final phase of the project in early 2019.
Central Lofts now has a total of 53 condo units, ranging in size from 765 square feet up to 1,800 square feet and from 1-3 bedrooms. The style incorporates original elements of the structure and function of the building, resulting in a modern industrial feel with exposed brick walls and original wood floors. Art made from old desks and lockers ornaments the building’s hallways. Amenities include an indoor pool and spa, outdoor fire pit and patio/grill area, two movie theaters and a fully-equipped exercise room. Open houses are held each Saturday from 12-3pm, with on-site agent available daily.
