The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome new member St. Julian Winery with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 27th.
St. Julian Winery is Michigan’s largest, oldest and most awarded winery. With a passion for great wine and a commitment to local sourcing, St. Julian offers high quality wines, ciders and spirits at approachable prices.
Founder Mariano Meconi was born in Italy and emigrated to North America as a young man. He began a wine company in Canada in the early 1920s, and following the end of prohibition he moved his business to Michigan, and then to its present location in Paw Paw in 1936. Critical to this move was the availability of grapes and other fruit that grow so well in the maritime climate of southwestern Michigan. Today, all of the fruit used in the winery comes from within a 45 mile radius of Paw Paw. The name of the business became St. Julian Winery in 1941, and it has remained family owned and operated to the present day.
Always refining and growing, St. Julian is currently increasing the variety and quantities of distilled spirits they are producing, as well as increasing distribution of wines and ciders. They conduct regular tours of the winery and have tasting rooms throughout the region.
