The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome new member The Fields of Michigan with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, June 26th.
The Fields of Michigan is a one-of-a-kind “rustic luxe” experience nestled in the heart of blueberry country. Owner Irene Wood knew she wanted to provide an escape with all the comforts of home, and settled on creating a business around “glamping” (a combination of “glamorous” and “camping”).
Irene and her husband Cary purchased property in Irene’s hometown of South Haven last fall, knowing that the blueberry farm with acres of forest and access to the Black River would make an ideal location for their business. They began construction this spring, building 10 canvas platform tents, each outfitted with a king-sized bed, wood-burning stove, flush toilet, shower and running water. The amenities don’t stop there; the grounds are treated for mosquitoes, there’s a common area/lodge available to guests, and gourmet meals are catered by local chefs.
2019 is the first season for The Fields, but there has already been a lot of interest and media buzz. Expansion plans include adding hiking trails, kayak access to the Black River, and more. The venue is also available for group trips and corporate retreats and has capacity for weddings and other private events in The Barn located just outside the campgrounds.
