South Haven Speakers Series Presents Tim Alberta on Coping with Extremism and Conflict
Award-winning journalist and author to examine America’s political divisions and how we can navigate these turbulent times
South Haven, MI-- How do we cope with today’s political divisions without being pulled into the quicksand of extremism and conflict?
Respected, award-winning national journalist and author Tim Alberta will explore this question when he speaks at the South Haven Speakers Series on Thursday, November 19, shortly after the midterm elections.
“Having covered the national political scene for years, Alberta brings a unique perspective to the forces shaping American politics and society,” says series board member Dick Brunvand.
His presentation will examine broader cultural trends, including polarization, extremism, and the roots of unrest in American life. Drawing on his reporting from communities across the country, he will offer insights into the challenges facing our nation and what we can do to meet them.
Alberta has written for The Hotline, The Wall Street Journal, National Journal, National Review, and Politico. He currently is a staff writer for The Atlantic.
Brunvand said, “his experience covering American politics, combined with his deeply personal faith and self-deprecating sense of humor, gives him a distinctive perspective on how we can understand one another and find a way forward in these difficult times.”
He is the author of two best selling books. American Carnage examines the turmoil within the Republican Party during the Trump era. His later book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, explores the intersection of evangelical Christianity and American politics, drawing on his own experiences and extensive reporting.
Following the midterm elections, Alberta will have a timely opportunity to discuss what the results may mean for the future of American politics and what could lie ahead in Washington.
The program will be held at Lake Michigan College’s South Haven campus. Refreshments will be available at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 7 p.m.
All South Haven Speakers Series programs are recorded and made available for later viewing on the series website page, Facebook and YouTube channel.
