• City of South Haven Awards Farm Market Contract to Chamber

The 2015 Farm Market will be managed by the South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber staff, led by designated Market Manager, Krissy Garland, will coordinate Farm Market vendors, and assure that shoppers have a positive experience. “I am looking forward to managing and developing this market to be an even more vibrant presence in our community,” says Market Manager, Krissy Garland.

So what’s in store for this year’s Farm Market? Vendors will show off their homegrown produce, plants and flowers, baked goods, handcrafted items and specialty foods. During some markets, musicians will perform and visiting organizations may hold classes or demonstrations. Due to a City of South Haven Ordinance adopted in early 2015, dogs are banned from the pavilion area during the Farm Market, but will be allowed in adjoining Dyckman Park. (This restriction does not apply to service animals.)

When asked why the Chamber of Commerce agreed to take on the management role, Executive Director, Kathy Wagaman replied “Encouraging consumers to shop locally is a vital component of the Chamber’s “Think Local” initiative. By managing the Farm Market, we are able to facilitate a direct connection between consumers and local producers.”

The South Haven Farm Market takes place at the Huron St. Pavilion in downtown South Haven on Saturdays from May 16 to October 17 and Wednesdays June through September. The market is open from 8am to 2pm on these days and features locally grown produce, baked goods and handcrafted items.
