Senior Services of Van Buren County
Senior Services of Van Buren County would like to take this time to express our concern for the senior population in our community. Michigan is becoming one of the fastest growing states for positive tests of the COVID-19 virus. Because of this and because of the vulnerability of the people that we serve we are asking that you stay home and limit risk of exposure. We also feel it is important to keep our staff safe so they have been working from home and continue to call clients and return messages from those of you who have called our offices. If you need something we are still just a phone call away. Call 269-637-3607 and leave a message, we are checking and returning calls within 24 hours. Again, 269-637-3607, leave a message and we will return the call promptly. We will return to the office once the stay in place order has been lifted by the governor. If you have a medical emergency call 911 or your local physician. We care deeply for all of you and wish we could wrap our arms around you all, however at this time we will just send our hug through this notice.

Our fellow 501c3’s are struggling and like our restaurant and bars in town are faced with laying off their help, many of whom are part time and even volunteers. We also recognize that many of these same 501c3’s count on each and every one of us for their support, both financial as well as time and talents. Please join us in this time of uncertainty by First: following the state and Federal guidelines “to flatten the curve”, keep yourselves and families safe, Secondly: where you are able, please remember our charities which are also our communitie’s treasures. Many of them have had fund raisers requiring attendance which is no longer possible. Where you can support them, we know they will appreciate it.

This morning, Governor Whitmer announced an extension to the state-issued closure of school to last throughout the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. While this means we will not finish the year in person, it does not mean that school is cancelled. We will be transitioning to an online platform to service our kids for the remainder of the school year. Although this is the last thing we imagined or wanted for our kids and staff this year, we have been preparing a plan in the event distance learning became necessary. Final details and logistics are being finalized and will be presented to families in the coming weeks as we work with the Van Buren ISD and Michigan Department of Education for their approval. We will have additional information the week of April 13th. [Read More]
