One of the pleasures of hosting an exhibition is meeting all the wonderful artists whose work we have the privilege of presenting. This year, we miss being able to greet you in person during the pandemic response. But instead of missing out on this opportunity, we thought we would host an a virtual opening! The South Haven Center for the Arts invited artists from across the nation to create narrative self-portraits. Artists were asked to take inspiration from the exhibition Frida Kahlo’s Garden—a National Endowment for the Humanities traveling exhibit that presents an intimate look at how nature and culture nourished Kahlo's creativity and informed the narrative in her art. This exhibition was juried by Alan Larkin.
Bring your own cup of wine and your favorite opening snack, visit the online exhibition, and hopefully meet the artists! The online exhibition will be open starting on Friday, May 22, 2020. We will have a virtual opening at 5pm Eastern time and look forward to seeing there! We may try breaking artists and visitors who want to chat into sub-groups. This is our first virtual opening, so prepare for the unexpected. Support artists and the Center by purchasing art work.
"I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best. I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to and I paint whatever passes through my head without any consideration." ~Frida Kahlo
