Family and children's activities will be featured at the Traditional Small Craft Association’s 34th Classic Boat Show and Small Craft Festival on the Michigan Maritime Museum campus from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. There will be readings of children's maritime books on the hour beginning at noon in the Coast Guard Building. Toy boat building will again be a popular opportunity for kids throughout the day. Drawing with the illustrator of the book, Bernida, a Michigan Sailing Legend has been added. Bernida, the 1921 R Class sailboat - three time winner of the Port Huron to Mackinaw Race - is tied up at the Museum's dock and will be the focus of two dockside tours, one at 11:15 a.m. and the other at 1:15 p.m. Among the boat building demonstrations planned throughout the day will be sewing up a Welsh Coracle fabric boat and decorative deck inlay for kayaks and canoes. Over thirty boats - canoes, sail, row and power craft - are expected. Admission is $8 adults, $7 seniors. Kids are free. Admission includes entrance to the Museum and all exhibits, including the recently restored fish tug, Evelyn S and the Mysteries Beneath the Waves Exhibit. In addition, the Museum's launch, Lindy Lou, and sloop, Friends Good Will, will be available for paid passenger service. The Museum is located at 260 Dyckman Ave., South Haven, MI.
