Red Carpet Dock Reception to Welcome Disney Star 36’ Motor Lifeboat 36460
The Michigan Maritime Museum is thrilled to be welcoming the star of the Disney film The Finest Hours, the 36-foot motor lifeboat 36460. In true Hollywood fashion, there will be a red carpet dock reception at the Museum July 9, 2016 from 2pm-5pm. Revelers can take part in the patriotic fanfare and fun at the reception with music, flag waving, and food all available on our campus. See the boat up close and personal at our docks. Meet the owner of the boat, Jeff Shook as well as the person largely responsible for its restoration, George Powell. Hear Powell describe his experiences with the process of restoration as well as Shook’s work with Disney on the set of The Finest Hours, including teaching the actors how to operate the boat! The 36460 will be escorted into South Haven by the United States Coast Guard St. Joseph Station 46-foot rescue boat and a flotilla of USCG Auxiliary vessels. If other boaters are interested in following the escort into port, boats will be organized by the Coast Guard Auxiliary three miles north of South Haven (near Sleepy Hollow) at 1:30pm on the 9th.
The event is free and the Museum is waiving admission fees between 2pm and 5pm. Bring the whole family to the event and join us for a celebration of the arrival of this famous boat that will be on a long-term loan to the Museum.
