National Women’s History Month
In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women’s History Month in perpetuity. A special Presidential Proclamation is issued every year which honors the extraordinary achievements of American women.
The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce wishes to honor the talented and hard-working women who contribute to the success of this community. The Chamber is proud to report that there are 64 women-owned Chamber business members in the community. These amazing women business leaders are providing expertise and services in retail, restaurant, accounting, hospitality, architectural design, real estate, insurance, education, agriculture, healthcare, IT & computer services, and much more. (See list of women-owned Chamber of Commerce members below.)
These women have embraced their opportunity to make history!
In 2016, a ten-person selection committee named acting Police Chief Natalie Thompson to serve as South Haven’s first female Police Chief. The 24-year veteran of the department beat out thirty-three other candidates.
In 2020, following a 3-month search resulting in 21 candidates from across the U.S., a local South Haven candidate, Kate Hosier, became the City’s first female City Manager.
South Haven’s City Council includes 2 women – Letitia Wilkins, representing Ward 1, and Wendi Onuki, representing Ward 2.
