The Impact of Immigration Law on Families
SOUTH HAVEN, MI — What happens to families caught in the crossfire of immigration law?
On Thursday, September 11 at 7 p.m., attend the South Haven Speakers Series program at Lake Michigan College – South Haven Campus for this timely discussion by Professor David Thronson of Michigan State University College of Law.
A leading expert on family law and immigration, Thronson explores how shifting U.S. immigration policies and practices impact vulnerable children and families, raising both legal and humanitarian questions.
Speakers’ series board member Dana Hullinger says, “Professor Thronson will address how changes in immigration law directly affect families, the legal complexities of family separation, and the humanitarian considerations that should guide policy decisions.”
From 2019 to 2024 Thronson served as the Director of the Talsky Center for Human Rights and the Alan S. Zekelman Professor of International Human Rights Law. His research focuses on the intersection of family law and immigration law, with particular emphasis on the vulnerabilities faced by children in immigration proceedings. He is widely recognized for his scholarship, teaching, and advocacy on behalf of immigrant families.
Join us at 6:30 p.m. for a wine and cheese reception, followed by the presentation at 7 p.m. Admission is $10, and students attend free of charge.
The South Haven Speakers Series is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Approximately three-quarters of the Series budget comes from generous donors.
