Performs a wide variety of skilled and complex automotive repair tasks, including inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding various types of automotive equipment including cars, trucks, tractors and other power-driven equipment; and to perform related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required, including or supplemented by technical training in general shop and auto repair work. Associates degree in automotive technology preferred. Three or more years of responsible experience in repairing and overhauling a variety of heavy or other automotive and power-driven equipment.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding a variety of automotive and power-driven equipment. Considerable knowledge of internal combustion engines, automotive electricity, transmissions, differentials, and other components of automotive equipment. Reasonable knowledge of welding and cutting techniques. Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures. Mechanical aptitude, fabricating abilities, and skilled with hydraulics. Ability to work effectively with others. Basic knowledge of data entry to enter daily maintenance records and to view maintenance and stock activity.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
Certified Master Mechanic preferred. Prefer welding certificate. Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a State of Michigan Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within nine (9) months of hire.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
This position will utilize a variety of tools and equipment used in automotive repair and maintenance activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Medium level of physical effort required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear; to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to focus.
